The church of the Carthusian monastery of Santa María de la Defensión looks like a Baroque interpretation of a Gothic shrine. This is less to the late Gothic nave structure, which somewhat restricted the architectural options here, but to a concept of architecture which saw its objective as a breakdown of structural elements through decoration and the graphic development of the wall.
