Cathedral, Jaén

The city of Jaén made a considerable contribution to Baroque architecture in Andalusia. In 1667 work began on the construction of a façade which Eufrasio López de Rojas (died 1684) had designed for the cathedral. The massive frontal, with five axes, using giant Corinthian orders and an attic story, refers to Maderno's St. Peter's in Rome.
