In Valencia, the Marquis of Dos Aguas had a city palace built from plans by the painter Hipólito Rovira (1693-1765) between 1740-44. Here the theatricality of the setting is pushed to extremes in the allegorical figures (the Valencian rivers, Turia and Júcar) flanking the portal in imitation of Michelangelo.
