Philip of Burgundy commissioned Jan Gossart to depict the monuments of antiquity in Rome. Gossart's depictions includes his most celebrated drawings, the View of the Colosseum, the Hercules of the Forum Boarium, the sheet with the Spinario, and the Apollo Citharoedus of the Casa Sassi. The Roman sketches show Gossart still much rooted in the artistic tradition in which he was trained.
