San Pier Maggiore Altarpiece: Adoring Saints

1370-71
Egg tempera on wood, 200 x 113 cm
National Gallery, London

The picture shows the right panel in the main tier of the altarpiece. The saints can be identified by their attributes. In the front row from left to right are St Paul holding the sword with which he was beheaded, St Matthew holding an inkwell, a quill pen and a book, and St Lawrence dressed as a deacon.
