The model of the cathedral of Trani was the San Nicola in Bari, without the double towers, indicating the existence of an Apulian school of Romanesque architecture. The west elevation of Trani breaks away from its model at Bari by providing a continuous, smooth surface without the reinforcing piers breaking Bari into a triple rhythm.
