Like the outstanding figure of the Italian Baroque, Gianlorenzo Bernini, Puget also executed a few paintings, many of which have a freshness and directness only paralleled by Bernini himself. The Self-Portrait at Aix-en-Province is especially brilliant. Puget worked much in Italy, specifically Genoa, and the influence of Genoese Baroque painting can be seen in his work.
