From 1406 to 1408 Donatello was working with Nanni di Banco in the workshop of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, where for the Porta della Mandorla - one of the north doors of the Cathedral - he executed the so-called Profetini, two small statues of Prophets placed above Nanni's large bas-relief of the Assumption.

In 1410-11 completed the statue of St John the Evangelist for the façade of the Cathedral, then around 1418 he executed the statues of the Bearded Prophet, the Prophet with Scrolls, and the Sacrifice of Isaac for the Campanile. The highest points of the decoration of the Campanile by Donatello were reached in 1423-26 by the statues of Prophet Jeremiah and Prophet Habakukk.
