Portraits (until 1515)
by Lucas CRANACH the Elder

In the first two decades of the sixteenth century Cranach established himself as a busy portrait painter. At court he proved his ability in this field with the life-sized double portrait of Duke Henry the Pious of Saxony and his wife Catherine of Mecklenburg. Also among his clients were mayors, councilors, and university professors.
