Who has information whether the Spanish painter VELAZQUEZ has ever painted a painting called JOB. I would be much obliged if somebody could tell me more about it. A friend of mine possesses a painting with no signature on it but only some information on the back. It is an oil painting on canvas. Thank you !

I have been reading Peter Robb's "M"...the story of Caravaggio...and, although the author does a magnificant job of describing each of Caravaggio's paintings, there are no viewable photos available. I researched Caravaggio on your Web Gallery of Art. Not only did I find the paintings I wanted to study, but some detailed photos as well...Bravo and Thank You, I will pass the word on to friends!

I love your site, even though I am condemned to go through life not appreciating art as true art lovers do. At exhibits (to which my wife sort of drags me), I enjoy the artwork, but not nearly as much as other attendees who have beatific expressions on their faces, as they contemplate a Manet, or Van Gogh, or a Leonardo. I have been visiting your site recently to check out the works David Hockney cites in the 1/31/00 article in The New Yorker entitled, "The Looking Glass." Great stuff! If you haven't your really should read it!! Thanks again.

Thank you for maintaining this wonderful web site. I used it to identify a reproduction of a painting I had seen at the Prado last year. I had forgotten the artist and title but was still able to locate it rather quickly. Being able to find so many great works of art reproduced so well is truly a great service.

I am doing some research into the iconography of St. Francis so it was interesting to get an overview. The links were helpful too, and I could print off the plan of the frescoes, rather than having to get a book out of the library and photocopy it. But aren't there some major questions as to whether Giotto was really the painter of the frescoes in the Upper Church ? Anyway thanks.

I use the internet to teach a class in Art History. I do not use a separate textbook, my students dig all of the visual information out of the net. I have gone to Taddeo Gaddi, got a thumbnail, hit the enlarging function, got a little red and white X. and no picture. Right now I'm trying to find how to get around the X and into the picture. Great pictures! when I can get them. ciao, R

Your site gives a wonderful opportunity to explore the world of Art. I was very pleased to find Isenheim's Alterpiece in your gallery. However when I downloaded an image I was looking for: "Man of Light" part of the above work, I discovered that the image resolution was nowhere near what I require - I wanted to use the image as a Wallpaper on my PC. If I zoom to 2x size the pixellation becomes unacceptable. Perhaps you could have a high res section somewhere.

I came upon this page quite by chance one day and immediately added it to my Favourites. It is amazingly comprehensive and covers what has to be one of the most inspired periods in the whole history of art (the Renaissance is also one of my passions!). Great work, all who were involved. I've now discovered how to own (copies of!) all the greatest paintings in the world! I only wish art history was an option at my school... sigh... If there are any Leonardo da Vinci buffs out there, feel free to write to me! I'm trying to research him at the moment and different perspectives on things are always welcome. your bio for antonio del castillo is incorrect. he was a pupil of Ignacio Aedo Calderon, a little-known Cordoba painter, and not of his uncle Juan (he had no uncle named Juan). Also, the St. Jerome that you mention is dated 1655 on the canvas, not 1635, making it a late work.

I like to know more about the Florentinoschool where il Verrocchio was painting because I bought two beautifull big black vases in wich at the bottomside the inscription : il Verrocchio Florence + a big M with a small crown I suppose, further handpainted golden birds and softblue flowers and green leaves. the gold lookes like small pieces of gold so beautifull. Can you please tell me what I've bought? If you need a picture I can send you one. Greetings from Sophia

Hello! My name is Silvia and I’m writting you on behalf of Bravaitalia. I’d like to introduce to you an interesting new reportage at our website www.bravaitalia.com From Friday 13 we are celebrating Saint Francis from Assisi. On the page “Celebrations”, apart from the short film of the religious ceremony, you can see the interview with some Franciscans and a testimony to the experience of many tourists that visited Assisi. Inside the page, however, the column “Traditions” shows a short film on the life of the Saint Francis throughout the places he visited, accompanied with suggestive music…and The canticle of the Creatures played by Bosetti and Gassman. Come and visit us! http://www.bravaitalia.com/nostalgie/h1.html Silvia

I found your wonderful gallery looking for the painting of Caravaggio, while trying to read the book "M the man who became Caravaggio". I wanted to see of course the paintings as they were described in the book. and your website has then listed chronologically which is a great help. Thanks so much,

Un sîte merveilleux. Je suis ébloui. On devrait pouvoir traduire les textes en français. Je l'apprécierais encore plus. Mais déjà comme cela, de grandes félicitations méritées.

Hello there! What a wonderful site this is. I can get lost in it really. I have fallen in love in a little statue made by an Belgian artist named Constantine Meunier. The statue shows how the father greet his lost son from Luke 10 in the bible. I would be so greatful if I can get a picture or copy of this statue. Please help me find one. Is there any on line? Visited your site looking for information on Peter Parler, master sculptor and cathedral builder. I am hoping to prove he is an ancestor. I am a student of archaeology and art history, currently working towards a certificate in museum studies. Keep up the good work -- I love your site!
